Post Op Day 2

After 6 years of rain it seems, the sun is shining!!! Through the window is where I will enjoy it...my husband's recliner has been overtaken by his gimpy wife. I remain hooked up to the game ready machine, watching football and being waited on for a change. I'm liking it!

The day of surgery I was in pretty intense pain, and feeling very sick from the general anesthesia. Day two I got really sore from PT and worried that I might have overdone it, or hurt something. Somehow I did not get the memo that I could do NO external rotation or hip flexion beyond 90 degrees. Both of which I did the first day home...freaking out over a little tinge of pain that occured after on of those movements.

But today has been great. I haven't taken a pain med in 12 hours other than NSAID!! I made it through my take home therapy routine with hardly any pain. Amazingly, day three has been great. Don't get me wrong, I'm taking it easy. On crutches there is still some pain, but resting, ice, elevation and compression are my rules and I'm sticking with that...so far so good.

Do you find the ice cools you down too much? I asked my surgeon if I would require an ice machine post op and he said no as it lowers the core temp too much.

No, it's been wonderful. Actually, when I use the ice machine I hardly even need any pain meds at all. But, twice I had a milkshake while wearing it and I did get too cold, started shaking and it caused my hip to hurt really bad. It kind of freaked me out, so now I know not to eat ice cream while icing, lol. I also really like this game ready machine because it places compression on it every few minutes which also feels great.
