8 Weeks Post-op: Measurably Better!

Thought I was 9 wks post-op, but it turns out I'm only 8, haha!!  It seems like 6 years, but yesterday at the same time.  I get a bit overwhelmed by the day to day demands of motherhood and housekeeping, but life does not wait.  So, I get to what I can and leave the rest.  Hoping to be guilt free as much as possible.

Some days I wonder if I'm still improving, the stiffness causes pain.  But this is totally normal post-op and so is a bit of post-op healing at this time.  No doubt my hip feels a million times better on the days I do my PT excercizes.  Not moving is very counterproductive. Lesson learned, PT is key.  At the beginning when we had a lot of help I was doing my PT excercizes twice a day and healing at lightning speed.

According to the chart my flexion, internal and external rotation numbers improve measurably each week.  And today I officially crossed into better than pre-op numbers!  I asked my PT to look back in my chart, a year ago 10-03-08 I had less range of motion than I did today at my 8 week post-op appointment.

So, if nothing else my biggest fear of being "worse off" has officially been put to rest.  How awesome is that?  Very.

Congrats! I'm so happy to hear that you're healing well. I don't think anyone thought it would be easy, in fact I think we all know the surgery will (or has in your case) cause significant pain and discomfort...but the fact that you're already better than pre-op at 8 weeks is crazy, especially considering the fact that Dr. Byrd told me that healing will continue up to 1 year post op!!!

I know! Thanks, it's relieving news. Now, I'm anxious to get the activity level back to normal, it couldn't happen too soon!
