YOGA at 5 weeks post-op!!

Yes, I'm a rule breaker, but I couldn't help myself.  Actually, it wasn't even planned.  I was late getting to the Pool for the Ai Chi class, which is a Tai Chi type pool workout, great for achy joints.  So, I gravitated slowly to the yoga class down the hall and whispered to the teacher that I was 5 weeks post-op hip surgery but wanted to see what the old girl could do.

Keep in mind here, I've practiced yoga for years & I've soaked up about all the info a brain can hold on what NOT to do after a labral repair.  I still followed all the rules, no external rotation.  But, I was able to modify when needed and listen to my body.  And the teacher was kind enough to focus on hamstrings at my request:)

It was a basic yoga with a lot of restorative type poses, very soothing and it felt AMAZING.  It's not unusual for me to bust out crying in a yoga class, but today I was grinning with my eyes closed.

And to think I wasn't even supposed to be off my crutches until this Thursday!!!

It is so encouraging to hear this! I am two weeks post op with Dr. Bryd and have been feeling blue, but this really cheered me up. I am so glad you are doing so well!

Caroline,
I didn't realize you had yours that recently. Do you live around Nashville or travel? I felt blue the first couple of weeks too. Actually had quite a few breakdowns. I guess it was about 4 weeks post-op I started to feel normal. And once you're allowed to get off the crutches it's much easier too.

Are you having pain or just feeling down about the whole thing in general?

This also cheered me up! My wife does Yoga and Pilates and has been trying to get me to do it as a stress reliever (GAD speaking here)...I definitely will look into it post op.

Sam,
Don't tell anyone at Byrd's office I did yoga!! haha. It's not allowed until 3 months post-op at least. I modified a lot of what the class was doing so not to compromise my recovery.

but it is a wonderful thing, only not something to start post-op, haha.
