I must've said a hundred times I'm not going to run again...but then we moved onto a quiet tree lined street that is flat and follows along a beautiful river with live oak trees and spanish moss and it's early fall, my favorite time of year. You get my point. I love to run and I'm one year post op living pain free...but kind of living in fear. I've turned into somewhat of a couch potato and that's not me. The fear of that pain started to have too much control.
So the last few weeks I've started thinking and preparing for a run. I've been concentrating on a lot of my old PT excercizes to strengthen, lots of yoga for stretching and then a trip to a great atheletic shoe store for the perfect running shoes (they are pink and really cute)!
And, yesterday on the first crisp fall day of September I took off and ran along the river. And it felt wonderful! I only ran about a mile...baby steps. But no pain followed in the evening and no pain the next day. Today I went just a bit farther. I'm going slow, increasing around 10% every few days is my goal.
And I think it's really important to follow up with some good stretches and strengthening excersizes. I'll try to keep you posted as this goes along! And share with you the resources I find out there that are helpful to me:)
Thanks for caring!
Vanessa
