I had impingements in both hips as well as a torn labrum in my right hip. I had arthroscopy on my right hip where Dr. Wilk at the Lahey clinic in Boston shaved the femoral bone, cleaned up the damaged cartilage, had to do microfracture because there was no cartilage left after cleanup and then tacked the labrum in place. After an hour on the table with the radiologist trying to get the contrast in the joint, he was unable to get it into the joint as was evident with the fluoroscope. My surgeon said the damage to my joint was severe. 8 weeks of nonweightbearing and loads of PT, I finally felt as if my hip was better after about 7 months. All was better until I started getting more aggressive with my workouts and activity. I don't think it's good to keep masking the problem. This type of injury is in an area that gets little blood supply so therefore it will never heal itself. The only cure is to deal with the pain or surgery. Go to another surgeon. My surgery was done by Dr. Anil Ranawat of Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. He is amazingly smart and specializes in arthroscopic hip surgery and joint repair.
